DESIGN & OUTER SPACE?

Yes, and it is a powerful combination.

Using strategic design capabilities in your projects makes them more agile, sustainable and user-centred so you do not waste time and money on the solutions that your users won’t use.

ODIS Design for Space offers a wide range of design services tailored to each customer needs. Let us bring our skills to your team and make the magic happen!

Age of the Moon

An original educational board game and an interactive workshop that simulates where, why,
and how nations might choose to cooperate or compete as they begin to explore and share
the lunar surface. The aim is to stimulate the discussion around different scenarios and
strategies around lunar infrastructure development.

Will nations cooperate on the Moon like
on the ISS? Or will they compete for scarce territory and resources?

The game dynamics have been designed by a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with
Space Generation Advocacy and Policy Platform (SGAPP) under the coordination of ODIS
Design for Space.
The first edition of the workshop has been enthusiastically received at the International
Astronautical Congress in Dubai in October 2021.
This work has been endorsed by IAF Space Habitat Committee as the outcomes are
considered to be relevant for the safe and sustainable operation of lunar surface habitats.

D-Orbit LIFT

D-Orbit LIFT service aims to simplify access to launchers, including the developing UK microlaunch services, and to offer increased flexibility and responsiveness in the launch booking process. It gives a broad scope of launch options for the needs and desired orbits of hosted payloads, CubeSats and microsats, from single satellites to entire constellations.

The role of ODIS was to support and bring clarity to the development of the end-to-end service and business model, perform research with the spaceports, launch providers and constellation operators as potential end customers of the service.

After a series of interviews, a detailed service journey has been mapped, highlighting opportunity and risk areas, followed by a series of service requirements. Later, a business model has been defined in collaboration with the Business Strategy Team at SA Catapult.

As part of ESA sponsored Pioneer Program, the objective of the project was to provide low cost and quick access to space for satcom technologies, systems, services & applications by developing capabilities of space and ground segments with their services. The role of ODIS was focusing on gathering requirements for the development and interaction with a new service delivery platform that would integrate with the spacecraft operations infrastructure to permit rapid, reliable and flexible access to mission data as well as permitting customer tasking.

The process of defining the requirements for the interfaces involved interviews with chosen Service Providers as potential direct customers of the service, who would then offer the data provisioned by the service to their end customers. As a result, a user workflow has been mapped together with relevant requirements based on the user insights.

Satellite4Batteries

Within the context of pressing global efforts to overcome the reliance on fossil fuels, there is an increasing need for “green technologies” where lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are a core component.

The project explored the use of remote sensing techniques in conjunction with historical mining and geological maps to generate a lithium abundance map within Cornwall to increase the precision of identification of battery metals while decreasing overall cost and environmental degradation associated with exploration.

The role of ODIS was, first of all, to analyse the existing solution based on the Esri platform from the usability point of view.

Secondly, we performed a series of interviews with the stakeholders to capture the pain points and needs around improving the visualisation of geological and remote sensing data. As a result, a set of recommendations for a new data visualisation site and the service as a whole was defined and prioritised in a collaborative process. ODIS has also assisted as the main facilitator in a series of consortium-wide as well as customer-facing ideation and planning sessions.

Additionally, as a part of a separate work package, a business model has been defined in collaboration with the Business Strategy Team at SA Catapult
